Licensed Practical Nurse

Licensed Practical Nurse Works Under Stress!

If you are thinking about becoming a licensed practical nurse, you should be very well informed before acting ahead. The truth is that there are numerous types of nursing careers waiting for you, in various departments of the medical field and they all bring rewards and satisfactions. But the fact is that in order to deal with the requirements of a nurse job, you need to be well informed, educated, prepared and determined to succeed.

The first thing you need to be aware of is that working as a certified nursing assistant requires the capacity of dealing with stress and managing stressful situations. Not all of us are prepared to overcome critical conditions, especially when we are talking about life and death issues. So, the main thing you need on your way to becoming a licensed practical nurse is to be convinced that you are tough and strong enough to deal with such demands.

The second most important requirement regards you actual physical resistance. What should you understand from this? Basically, there are many nursing colleges’ students that quit their studies, simply because they fainted at the sight of the blood. For sure, if this is your case, this is not the career for you. Still, you also have to know the fact that even though some situations might seem impossible to handle at the beginning, things can get better with time. You will learn to grow resistance and immunity in various critical situations.

The fact is that a licensed practical nurse works in a very stressful environment, especially the ones who perform their activities in intensive care or in the surgery room. Nevertheless, working with elder ones, with children or with the patients suffering from mental disorder presupposes having a wide range of communicational abilities and skills. A licensed certified nurse does not limit her activities to the exact requirements of the medical profession. Basically, nowadays, a nurse has the role to assist the patients both medically and morally, as well as offering support to their families. Obviously, this can not be an easy job, but one that implies many responsibilities and a great power to overcome difficult and overwhelming situations.

A licensed practical nurse is the one expected to understand the patients’ needs and desires. In many cases, the closeness between the patient and these specialists eclipses the relationship between the doctor and the one in need of medical care. In many hospitals, and especially in the case of nurses who have PhDs, these specialists are the ones that establish the diagnosis and who decide regarding the treatment, and not the actual doctors. Nevertheless, a certified nursing assistant can work in the administrative field, thus assuring the well functioning of the medical system.

As shown above, a licensed practical nurse needs to own a wide range of professional and personal skills. All these qualities and abilities are more than essential when dealing with patients, when applying the correct treatment or when assisting the doctors in intensive care. Basically, you need to be aware of all these aspects, in order to make the right decision and to make sure that you can be a successful and highly efficient licensed practical nurse. And if you manage to do so, you can be sure that you are headed towards a life full of satisfactions and rewordings! Good luck to you!
